KOTA KINABALU: Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) remains steadfast in its support towards the leadership of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.<\/p>\n
STAR President Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said that as far as the party is concerned, Muhyiddin is still the prime minister despite intense pressures to force him to step down.<\/p>\n
\u201cConstitutionally, he is still the prime minister. The parliament will have the opportunity to determine his legitimacy as the prime minister in September.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the meantime, all of these claims that he is a traitor to the King are baseless, and frankly, extremely distracting at a time when we should all be working together, both the government and the opposition to battle COVID-19,\u201d he said in a statement here today.<\/p>\n
Kitingan pointed out that the government\u2019s efforts to halt the spread of COVID-19 are being jeopardised by the continual political disruptions, which are undermining any attempt to carry out the National Recovery Plan as scheduled.<\/p>\n
Today, he said there are already almost 20,000 cases of COVID-19 detected in Malaysia, with the number projected to rise in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat saddens me is that, during the four days of the parliament\u2019s sitting, the opposition was insistent about playing politics while contributing nothing to the fight against COVID-19.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we need now is the government\u2019s undivided commitment to ensuring Malaysia is on the right path toward economic recovery while keeping the best interests of the people in mind.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe opposition must be courteous enough to allow the government to carry out this plan,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
