KOTA BELUD: Kota Belud Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri (Anak Negeri) chief Gundohing Dr Kanul Gindol has strongly advocated for Yayasan Sabah to create a special fund to aid students from low-income families who are unable to pay for university registration fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, university registration fees are getting more and more costly; some can reach RM3,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He claimed that in order to promote education in Sabah, the Sabah Foundation was founded in 1966.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said in a statement on Thursday, “Why did the Yang di-Pertua Negeri himself have to ‘go down to the field’ to provide immediate assistance to two students who were nearly unable to register at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) as reported recently?”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The state’s governor, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, offered Chrisnanalina Jumis from Paitan and Nor Fasha Natashya from Tawau support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“In the same way, why do People’s Representatives need to contribute funds to cover our students’ registration costs?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kanul continued. “We frequently come across instances where our students from disadvantaged backgrounds are unable to pursue higher education because their parents are unable to pay for the college or university registration fees,” he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Why doesn’t Yayasan Sabah take the initiative in this matter?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kanul claims that many of the officers, employees, and managers of different departments and units in Yayasan Sabah receive extremely high salaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
