KOTA KINABALU: RAM Rating Services Berhad (RAM) has on July 16, 2024, reaffirmed the AA1\/Stable\/P1 ratings of Sabah Development Bank Berhad’s (SDB) debt instruments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
RAM is the leading and largest credit rating agency in Southeast Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The agency publishes credit ratings to give an independent, forward-looking opinion about an issuer\u2019s ability to repay its financial obligations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The AA1 rating indicates that SDB has a strong capability to meet its financial obligations and is resilient against adverse changes in circumstances, economic conditions, and\/or operating environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The \u201cstable\u201d outlook reflects RAM\u2019s expectation that the long-term rating will remain unchanged over the immediate term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
SDB\u2019s commercial papers are also affirmed at P1, which is the highest short-term rating assigned by RAM, indicating a strong capability to meet short-term financial obligations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In RAM\u2019s announcement, it stated: \u201cThe ratings continue to be anchored by Sabah state’s very strong likelihood of support for the bank and its debt borrowings\u2014a commitment firmly articulated to RAM and SDB\u2019s investors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The state\u2019s financial capacity is underpinned by its robust fiscal position and cash reserves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sabah Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, in a statement on July 12, 2024, said, \u201cI wish to reaffirm the state’s support for the bank in times of need, particularly our commitment to ensure that the bond obligations and repayment are kept whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The bank reflects the state\u2019s financial standing and has an important role in the development of the state.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201dSince taking office, the new management team has summarily strengthened the bank\u2019s governance and credit underwriting while also intensifying recovery efforts for distressed assets,\u201d RAM added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
