KUALA LUMPUR: Former journalist and Kajai Award winner Wan Noor Hayati Wan Alias – better known as Wanti –\u00a0died at the Serdang Hospital here\u00a0at about 6.10 pm today. She was 44.
Her brother Wan Mohd Faizal Wan Alias, 46, when confirming the matter said she died due to\u00a0heart failure after struggling with pneumonia.
According to him, Wanti\u00a0will be buried at the Kampung Bintongan Muslim Cemetery in\u00a0Rembau, Negeri Sembilan at around 11 pm.
Wanti\u00a0is\u00a0understood to have been admitted to the\u00a0Putrajaya Hospital due to shortness of breath after she had been confirmed to be infected with COVID-19 in April.
Since then, her\u00a0health began to deteriorate, believed to be due to the long terms effects of the disease, and she frequented\u00a0the hospitals in Serdang and Kajang.
She was admitted to the Serdang Hospital two days ago.
Apart from Utusan Malaysia, Wanti\u00a0also served\u00a0with Berita Harian and Media Variasi and won the Kajai Award – the highest journalism award in\u00a0the country –\u00a0presented\u00a0by the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) in 2013.
A single mother, Wanti leaves behind a nine-year-old son.
