{"id":19633,"date":"2023-04-08T07:54:01","date_gmt":"2023-04-07T23:54:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/?p=19633"},"modified":"2023-04-08T07:54:01","modified_gmt":"2023-04-07T23:54:01","slug":"transhipment-activity-in-labuan-on-track-with-arrival-of-second-ncs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/2023\/04\/08\/transhipment-activity-in-labuan-on-track-with-arrival-of-second-ncs\/","title":{"rendered":"Transhipment activity in Labuan on track with arrival of second NCS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Jailani Hasan<br \/>\nLABUAN: The second trip of non-convention ship (NCS), better known as \u201ckumpit\u201d\u00a0from the southern Philippines province of Tawi-Tawi, arrived at the Labuan Liberty Wharf today.<br \/>\nThe wooden vessel will be loading a consignment of 175 tonnes or 7,000 bags\u00a0of rice to the\u00a0southern Philippines market.<br \/>\nMegah Port Management Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Idjal Tahir said the arrival of the second NCS is a testament that the transhipment activity on the island is on track.<br \/>\n\u201cBeing the port operator, Megah Port Management will continue to facilitate the movement and storage of the consignment before and after the loading process,\u201d he told Bernama.<br \/>\nIdjal said a\u00a0third trip from a large NCS from Tawi-Tawi is scheduled to call at the port early next week.<br \/>\n\u201cThe vessel will be loading the same consignment of rice with an increased volume of 250 tonnes or 10,000 bags.<br \/>\n\u201cWe must thank the authorities to help facilitate the movement of the transhipment activity thus far,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nThe first NCS from the province of Tawi-Tawi arrived at Labuan Port on Feb 27, 2023, and it officially revived transhipment activity between Labuan and the southern Philippines.<br \/>\nThe vessel loaded a consignment of\u00a0125 tonnes of sugar and 112.5 tonnes of rice.<br \/>\nLabuan Chamber of Commerce (LCC) chairman Daniel Doughty said the repeat trip of NCS to Labuan port was evidence of the efficient services by the port operator.<br \/>\n\u201cWe are glad to note the transhipment activity is back on track after so many efforts from various parties, our chamber and the authorities.<br \/>\n\u201cThe revival of this transhipment shows that the foreign industry player has confidence in Labuan\u2019s economy and standard operating procedures\u00a0in conducting business,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nDoughty said the authorities must work together with the industry players to help stimulate the island\u2019s economy by facilitating business transactions.<br \/>\nThe island\u2019s economy has been feeling the pinch since barter trade activity between Labuan and southern Philippines was halted in 2016 after more than four decades in operation.\u00a0<br \/>\n&#8212; BERNAMA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Jailani Hasan LABUAN: The second trip of non-convention ship (NCS), better known as \u201ckumpit\u201d\u00a0from the southern Philippines province of Tawi-Tawi, arrived at the Labuan Liberty Wharf today.
