PUTRAJAYA: The government is taking a firm approach in awarding contracts or projects to any party in line with the principles of good governance in administration, according to\u00a0Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
\nHe said the awarding of contracts or projects with the intention of gaining something for oneself, or having a conflict of interests,\u00a0for example, is not allowed.
\n\u201cIt\u2019s better for us to be firm in this matter in order to save the country,\u201d he said at the Finance Ministry\u2019s Ihya Ramadan programme here today.
\nAnwar, who is also Finance Minister, said fighting power abuse and corruption is an effort which was given emphasis in governance in Islam, but more often than not, \u2018bribery\u2019 was always deemed okay when it was categorised as \u2018donation\u2019.
\n\u201cThat is confusing. There shouldn’t\u00a0be\u00a0ambiguity and confusion between right and wrong,\u201d he said.
\nAt the event, Anwar also spent time listening to the tazkirah (lecture)\u00a0by Federal Territories Mufti Datuk Dr Luqman Abdullah.\u00a0
\nAlso present were Minister in the Prime Minister\u2019s Department (Religious Affairs)\u00a0Datuk Dr Mohd Na\u2019im Mokhtar, Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan and Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican.
