KOTA KINABALU: The\u00a0selection process\u00a0of adoptive\u00a0parents is\u00a0tightened to ensure that they\u00a0are truly qualified and suitable, said\u00a0Women, Family and Community Development Minister\u00a0Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
\nIn this regard, she said a new guideline book was introduced\u00a0as a reference to evaluate\u00a0the eligible parties\u00a0to be the guardians of the children.
\n“These guidelines were created to ensure the placement suitability\u00a0of\u00a0children\u00a0under adoptive\u00a0parents or people who\u00a0are qualified and suitable\u00a0(OYLS).
\nUnder these guidelines, the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) has introduced a screening system for the\u00a0Personality Psychological Assessment (TAJMA), which is a psychological measurement tool designed to provide scientific data about an individual’s thoughts, feelings and behavior,” she said when launching the new guideline book here today.
\nNancy said through the assessment, the\u00a0suitability\u00a0of adoptive\u00a0parents in the aspect of care\u00a0and protection of children can be examined in more detail.
\nNancy said state-level\u00a0Child Placement Panel Committee for OYLS had\u00a0also been created and chaired by the state Social Welfare directors to ensure the suitability\u00a0of the\u00a0placement taking into account various aspects.
\nMeanwhile, she said the ministry through JKM had\u00a0handled a total of 6,781 cases involving abuse (physical, sexual, emotional abuse) and neglect, last year.
\n“To date, a total of 185 assistant community development officers (PPPM) have been appointed and gazetted in the first phase of 2021 and the appointment of 158 officers\u00a0will continue in 2023,\u201d she added.
