He hoped Malaysians could give more time to the unity government to perform and to bring the nation to greater heights.

“Now that we have a good start, we must continue to push for greater success ahead. This is how democracy works!” he said.

In a statement issued today, Goh said Huazong, Chinese community included, and the people are supporting the Malaysia Madani concept of governance advocated by Anwar, and hoped that such concept can be fully implemented by the unity government in introducing policies which are beneficial to the country and its people.

“The Malaysia Madani concept should not be in any way defeated by some ‘Little Napoleons’ in the government or some extreme, narrow-minded individuals in our society, and eventually be reduced to a hollow-sounding slogan. This definitely is not something which the people wished to see!” he said.

He continued that, while in the past 100 days, in general, the 50-members strong unity government, and its team of senior advisors, has demonstrated a new style of governance, what really matter to the people is for the government to ensure a real reform to the entire public service, to better serve the people, dedicatedly and professionally.

Goh who is also President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) went on to note that, since taking office, the Prime Minister has made official visits to various countries, members of ASEAN especially, to better promote Malaysia in the global arena via diplomacy. He hoped the Prime Minister could continue with such effort in his visit to China and the United States of America, after this.

He then reiterated that the unity government must continue to ensure political stability in the country, and to stimulate and accelerate economic recovery.

“This includes to stabilise the Ringgit and prices of goods, and to bring down cost of living, so as to ease the people’s financial burden,” he said.

He also welcomed and supported the various noble policies introduced by the unity government, such as zero tolerance against corruption, an independent judiciary, no more procurements without tender, automatic citizenship for children born overseas to Malaysian mothers, to further enhance e-government services, and a series of welfare aids and living allowances for the middle and lower income groups.

“The government also needs to effectively address various challenging issues after this, including the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) and the University and Universities Colleges Act 1971 (UUCA), besides delivering its election promises,” he said.

He added that the unity government may also need to make necessary preparations, to face the outcomes of the coming state elections of the six states, which may have significant impact on the nation’s political landscape.

He again urged the government to take serious actions against religious and political extremists, cautioning that if the actions of these individuals are left unchecked, they may undermine political stability and racial harmony and eventually ruin the country.

KUALA LUMPUR:Ensuring political stability, revitalizing the economy and fighting extremism will remain the tough challenges for the ‘unity government’, after this, said Tan Sri T.C Goh, President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong).
