KUALA LUMPUR: The government will make several important announcements soon, including on\u00a0additional income opportunities for the B40 group so that the people do not have to use up their Employees\u00a0Provident Fund (EPF) savings.\u00a0
\nEconomy Minister Rafizi Ramli said at the same time, the government will look into policies and programmes, through the ongoing\u00a012th Malaysia Plan\u2019s (12MP) mid-term review, which targets\u00a0wage growth.\u00a0
\n\u201cThis is because the government must have a clear framework between the next two and five years to ensure wage increases are not left to market forces. All these are for the medium and long term,\u201d he said after the kick-off session of the Strategic Dialogue with the Economy Minister: \u2018Empowering Industries\u00a0To Drive Economic Growth In The Fourth Industrial Revolution Era\u2019 today.
\nRafizi said it\u00a0is the government’s responsibility to ensure Malaysians have some savings during\u00a0their old age where the focus will be given in terms of assistance and policies involving the cost of living and income.
\n\u201cWe need to be careful with EPF withdrawals, although I understand that for some families it can help for now, the cost they have to pay in the future is high,\u201d\u00a0he said.
\nYesterday, Prime Minister\u00a0Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the\u00a0government was\u00a0in the midst of finding ways to reduce people\u2019s financial stress without them having to withdraw their EPF savings.
\nMeanwhile, Rafizi also said that\u00a0the impact of the increase\u00a0in the cost of living can also be handled better by households if\u00a0subsidy programmes\u00a0are successfully channeled to targeted groups who truly are in need of them.
\n\u201cThe decision-making process for eligibility\u00a0is underway and this is one of the biggest decisions in the national economy\u2026 we must be able to determine household income and the number of households,\u201d\u00a0he said.
\nRafizi also said that the\u00a0Special Task Force to Facilitate Business\u00a0(PEMUDAH)\u00a0will be improved with the hope of making Malaysia a more competitive market and business-friendly destination.
\n\u201cThe platform will be chaired by me and also Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali,” he said.
