KOTA KINABALU: UMNO\u2019s\u00a0Tanjung Keramat\u00a0state assemblyman Datuk Shahelmey Yahya is against Sabah Barisan Nasional\u2019s (BN) decision to withdraw support from\u00a0Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman\u00a0Datuk Hajiji Noor as Chief Minister.
\nShahelmey, who is also\u00a0Putatan\u00a0MP,\u00a0said state assemblymen should be focussing on developing the state instead of getting involved in plots to topple the state government.
\nThe state Community Development and People\u2019s Well-being Minister said\u00a0changing the state government without a compelling reason or the people\u2019s agreement would create a perception of political instability.
\nThe Sabah state\u00a0administration under the GRS-BN coalition has done well\u00a0by increasing the state\u2019s revenue to RM6.5 billion last year from\u00a0RM5 billion the year before.
\n“This is not the time to play politics but to continue with efforts to develop\u00a0the economy and the state,\u201d he told reporters after opening the \u201cSMART Jawab SPM 2022\u201d programme at\u00a0Dewan SM Maktab Sabah here today.
\nShahelmey\u2019s statement has answered the question of why he was not present at a press conference yesterday where Sabah BN chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin announced that BN was withdrawing its support for Hajiji.
\nShahelmey said he chose to stay away because he did not support the move made\u00a0by Bung Moktar and other leaders of the party.
\nAt the press conference, Bung Moktar said \u201cUMNO and Sabah BN\u201d no longer supported Hajiji and had lost confidence in his leadership as he had allegedly violated\u00a0an agreement reached between BN and\u00a0Perikatan Nasional in forming the state government.
