PUTRAJAYA: Reiterating\u00a0that his Cabinet will be downsized,\u00a0Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said he will do away with the extravagant manner of appointing ministers as a form of reward.
\n\u201cI want them to support me based on my policies and my commitment towards good governance, my commitment\u00a0to anti-corruption drive, and to resuscitate the economy\u2026it is actually that.
\n\u201cOf course, we can consider one or two cases where it\u2019s absolutely necessary, but it should not be seen as rewarding political masters in order that they support you,\u201d he said in a press conference after chairing the\u00a02022 National Action Council on Cost of Living Special Meeting here.<\/p>\n
On when the\u00a0Cabinet line-up\u00a0will be announced, he said it would\u00a0be in the next few days as he is currently in discussion with the coalition members including three main parties in Pakatan Harapan namely\u00a0PKR, DAP and Amanah and United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO).
\n\u201cI had\u00a0a very good meeting with the\u00a0Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg (Gabungan Parti Sarawak chairman) yesterday.<\/p>\n
Then I\u2019ve got to\u00a0speak with Barisan Nasional representatives, they have working committees also to give some recommendations,\u201d he said, adding that he would\u00a0be meeting\u00a0Sabah Chief Minister and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor later this evening.<\/p>\n
Anwar during the press conference\u00a0on his first day in office on Friday\u00a0(Nov 25) said the Cabinet size\u00a0will be reduced and he is also seeking the agreement of members who will\u00a0be appointed to reduce their salaries.
