{"id":17004,"date":"2022-11-24T04:50:32","date_gmt":"2022-11-23T20:50:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/?p=17004"},"modified":"2022-11-24T04:55:11","modified_gmt":"2022-11-23T20:55:11","slug":"umno-supports-being-part-of-non-pn-led-unity-govt-ahmad-maslan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/2022\/11\/24\/umno-supports-being-part-of-non-pn-led-unity-govt-ahmad-maslan\/","title":{"rendered":"UMNO supports being part of non PN-led unity gov&#8217;t &#8211; Ahmad Maslan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA LUMPUR: \u00a0UMNO supports the idea of being part of a Unity Government, as proposed by\u00a0Yang di-Pertuan Agong\u00a0Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri\u2019ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, but one that is not led by\u00a0Perikatan Nasional (PN), its secretary-general\u00a0Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said.<br \/>\nIn a statement, he said this was decided in an\u00a0UMNO special Supreme Council meeting, chaired by party president\u00a0Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, here last night.<br \/>\nHe said the\u00a0Supreme Council has unanimously decided to support and uphold the proposal of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for\u00a0Barisan Nasional (BN) to consider participating in a Unity Government.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u201c\u2026. (this is) to ensure that a stable and prosperous government can be formed,&#8221; he said in the statement issued after the three-hour meeting held at the party headquarters in Menara Dato Onn here.\u00a0<br \/>\nHowever, that government must not be led by PN, he added.\u00a0<br \/>\nAhmad also said that the Supreme Council had agreed for all of its party representatives who won parliamentary seats in the just concluded 15th\u00a0general election (GE15) to comply with and accept any form\u00a0of a Unity Government or any other forms of a government that has been proposed by His Majesty.\u00a0<br \/>\nAccording to Ahmad, the UMNO Supreme Council meeting also strengthened support for Ahmad Zahid to remain as BN chairman and unanimously backed him as UMNO president.<br \/>\nThe Council also took note of and reviewed in detail both discussions carried out by the BN negotiation committee with Pakatan Harapan (PH) and PN, he said.<br \/>\nHe also stated that the 2022 UMNO general assembly would be held on Dec 21-24.<\/p>\n<p>In the recent GE15, BN only won 30 parliamentary seats, the worst ever in its history, while PH captured 82 seats, PN (73), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (23), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (six), Parti Warisan (three), Independent (two) while Parti Bangsa Malaysia and Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat won one seat each.<br \/>\nThe GE15 result\u00a0meant no one party nor political bloc managed to get a majority, resulting in a hung Parliament.<br \/>\nThe Special Meeting of the Malay Rulers will be held\u00a0later today to discuss the formation of the new government.<br \/>\n&#8212; BERNAMA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA LUMPUR: \u00a0UMNO supports the idea of being part of a Unity Government, as proposed by\u00a0Yang di-Pertuan Agong\u00a0Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri\u2019ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, but one that is not led by\u00a0Perikatan Nasional (PN), its secretary-general\u00a0Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said.
