SANDAKAN: GRS candidate Lau Chi Keong @ Thomas Lau has called on folks in Sandakan to reject politicians who run away from their responsibilities to the people.<\/p>\n
\u201cSandakan people must know that maintenance of public infrastructures is not a petty matter and resolving it is also part of the responsibility of an elected representative,\u201d Lau said.<\/p>\n
Some residents had come to me with problems such as clogged drains and faulty streetlights after their appeal for help to incumbent elected representatives had gone unheeded, he added.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo me, a member of parliament has the capacity to ensure these issues are rectified in the interest of the people within the shortest possible time,\u201d<\/p>\n
Lau said at the meet and greet programme with Sandakan Chef Association and Sandakan Caf\u00e9 and Restaurant Association members on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Lau assured he would not run from his responsibilities but instead arrange to have these problems fixed if Sandakan voters give him the mandate as Member of Parliament this Nov 19.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that well-managed public infrastructures maintenance was important as it would give a positive image of our Sandakan town.<\/p>\n
\u201cPoor maintenance of public infrastructures and filthy surroundings are not petty as this can drive away investors from our beloved town,\u201d Lau reiterated.<\/p>\n
Lau also appealed to Sandakan people complaining about the economic slowdown, to give him a chance and let him work out his plans to help boost Sandakan\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n
I will strive to find solutions to issues affecting the Sandakan people like the economy, cost of living, better basic facilities and housing, he added.
