SANDAKAN \u2013 The sole SAPP candidate, P.186 Sandakan candidate Lau Chi Keong @ Thomas Lau is determined to develop Sandakan.
\nHe said what Sandakan really needs is to bring in investment and thus create more job opportunities for the locals.
\nAt the same time, he said, BIMB-EAGA relationship has to be strengthened in the effort to create business opportunities to develop Sandakan.
\nHe said this when met by the media after nomination day in P186 Sandakan at the nomination centre at Sandakan Community Hall, Saturday.
\nLau will be contesting against Sandakan\u2019s incumbent Vivian Wong Shir Yee, independent candidate Hu Chang Lik @ Hii Chang Lik (independent), Thien Ching Qiang (Warisan), Lokeman Hazli Azali (independent) dan Lita Tan Abdullah (independent).
\nLau hopes voters will be wise in judging who will become the leader in Sandakan to bring the people\u2019s voices to the parliament in the future.
\nLau, 73, is born and raised in Sandakan. He was Sandakan Municipal Council deputy president from 1999 to 2005.
\nHe has also been active in charity works with several non-government organisations.
\nHe joined SAPP and was appointed as Sandakan zone vice chairman last year, and as the party vice president during the SAPP congress last September.
\nHe has been active in business since he retired from state civil service in 2005.
\nLau has been appointed as the Chinese Community Leader (Kapitan) Tanjong Papat in December 2021.
