{"id":15660,"date":"2022-10-01T06:45:11","date_gmt":"2022-09-30T22:45:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/?p=15660"},"modified":"2022-10-01T06:45:11","modified_gmt":"2022-09-30T22:45:11","slug":"umno-supreme-council-wants-parliament-dissolved-soon-ahmad-maslan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/2022\/10\/01\/umno-supreme-council-wants-parliament-dissolved-soon-ahmad-maslan\/","title":{"rendered":"UMNO Supreme Council wants Parliament dissolved soon &#8211; Ahmad Maslan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA LUMPUR: The UMNO Supreme Council wants Parliament to be dissolved in the near future to enable the 15th\u00a0general election (GE15) to be held within this year, party secretary-general\u00a0Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said.<br \/>\nHe said this was agreed at the Supreme Council meeting tonight, held after the party\u2019s top five leaders, known as the Top 5, met this evening.<br \/>\n\u201cBased on this decision, Prime Minister\u00a0(Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob) will present the proposed date\u00a0of the dissolution (of Parliament) to the\u00a0Yang di-Pertuan Agong in line with Article 40 (1) of the Federal Constitution,\u201d he told a media conference after the meeting concluded at Menara Dato\u2019 Onn here.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was chaired by party president\u00a0Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.\u00a0<br \/>\nAlso present were deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan\u00a0and\u00a0the three\u00a0vice-presidents &#8211; Ismail Sabri,\u00a0Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.<br \/>\nAhmad said the decision was based on UMNO\u2019s consistent stance right from the start to return the people\u2019s mandate, which had\u00a0been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic after the Pakatan Harapan government fell.<\/p>\n<p>As such, he said party machinery at every level had been instructed to finalise preparations to enter the dissolution phase until polling day.<br \/>\n\u201cUMNO believes that only by restoring the people\u2019s rights to get the mandate can a stable government be established to revive the country, especially in terms of economy which is closely related to the issue of their well-being, in addition to several institutional reform efforts towards better governance of the country,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nAhmad said the Supreme Council also welcomed the Cabinet\u2019s decision in ordering law enforcement agencies to immediately carry out further investigation into\u00a0the possible misconduct by former attorney-general Tommy Thomas and\u00a0take legal action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe meeting also urged that the report by the special task force to investigate the allegations contained in the book titled \u2018My Story: Justice in the Wilderness\u2019 be made public. This is important to restore the image and integrity of the judicial\u00a0institution and rule of law,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nHe said UMNO also respected the decree by\u00a0the Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar for\u00a0the special task force&#8217;s investigation report on the Batu Putih sovereignty issue to be immediately tabled and made public.<br \/>\nIn other developments, the meeting also accepted the resignation of Tan Sri Zulhasnan Rafique as chairman of the UMNO Disciplinary Board and agreed to appoint Datuk Mohd Hafarizam Harun to fill the position.<br \/>\n&#8220;UMNO has also sacked Datuk Zaharin Mohd Yasin as\u00a0a member of UMNO with immediate effect in accordance with Clause 10.6 read together with Clause 5.9 for violating the Ethics of UMNO Members under Clause 20.9 of the UMNO Constitution,&#8221; he said.<br \/>\nThe meeting also took note of the recent meeting between Ahmad Zahid and PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.<\/p>\n<p>Source- BERNAMA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA LUMPUR: The UMNO Supreme Council wants Parliament to be dissolved in the near future to enable the 15th\u00a0general election (GE15) to be held within this year, party secretary-general\u00a0Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said.
