KOTA KINABALU: UMNO President, Dato Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid is worried with a media report that alleges 12,705 college students have turned to the social media in search of \u2018sugar daddy\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that this places the country on the top rank in Asia for college students acquiring \u2018sugar daddy\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also said that the claim involves both public and private tertiary students around Lembah Klang and said that he found the phenomenon upsetting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2018This not only shows moral degradation but is also against the Syariah laws for those who are Moslems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI do not wish to find fault in anyone concerning the issue because what is more vital now is to save the country\u2019s future generation,\u201d he said in his Facebook posting today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zahid said that the media report mentioned an increase of more than 40 percent in college students\u2019 registration for \u2018sugar daddy\u2019 after MCO 1.0, CMCO, RMCO and MCO 2.0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPerhaps it is because of lives demands and the economy following the Covid-19 pandemic that caused the college students involved to behave like that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hence, he hoped the Higher Education Ministry would consider the issue and said also that \u201cI will communicate with Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad myself\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zahid also hopes that the religious agencies will investigate and save the students who are Moslems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIf it is because of financial demands, JAKIM, State Islamic Department, zakat centres and Baitulmal could perhaps channel financial assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
