{"id":14012,"date":"2022-07-20T15:07:24","date_gmt":"2022-07-20T07:07:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/?p=14012"},"modified":"2022-07-20T15:07:24","modified_gmt":"2022-07-20T07:07:24","slug":"k-komm-monitors-companies-implementing-pop-project-in-700-sabah-schools-annuar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/2022\/07\/20\/k-komm-monitors-companies-implementing-pop-project-in-700-sabah-schools-annuar\/","title":{"rendered":"K-KOMM monitors companies implementing PoP project in 700 Sabah schools &#8211; Annuar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA LUMPUR: \u00a0The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) is monitoring companies that have been awarded tenders to instal\u00a0fiber\u00a0optic Point of Presence\u00a0(PoP)\u00a0network hubs\u00a0in 700 rural schools in Sabah.<br \/>\nIts Minister\u00a0Tan Sri Annuar Musa said\u00a0there was slow progress to the implementation of the project, which was supposed to be completed by the end of this year, and therefore the companies needed to improve their\u00a0performance under the Phase One of the\u00a0PoP initiative.<br \/>\n\u201cAll PoP projects in the schools\u00a0in Sabah will continue and the ministry will launch the Phase Two of the\u00a0PoP initiative\u00a0before the end of this year. Sabah and Sarawak will also be given priority for this project,\u201d\u00a0he said in reply to a supplementary\u00a0question\u00a0from Vivian Wong Shir Yee (PH-Sandakan) during the question and answer session at the Dewan Rakyat here today.<br \/>\nVivian wanted to know the progress of the PoP project in rural schools in Sabah which was announced last March.<br \/>\nThe PoP method\u00a0uses fibre optic hubs as an alternative in ensuring that the network and coverage of broadband infrastructure can be expanded to school and populated areas better.<br \/>\nMeanwhile, in his\u00a0reply\u00a0to a\u00a0question\u00a0from Datuk Wilson Ugak Anak Kumbong (GPS-Hulu Rajang), Annuar said a total of 85 telecommunication tower sites had been developed in Sarawak while another 741 were being built\u00a0under Phase One of\u00a0the\u00a0National Digital Network\u00a0(JENDELA) programme.<br \/>\nAs for works to\u00a0upgrade transmitter stations, he said a total of 2,933 towers had been upgraded while another 247 towers throughout Sarawak were in the process of being upgraded.<br \/>\n\u201cThe federal government\u2019s commitment to ensure that Sarawak has the best internet connections is clear, a total of RM4.09 billion under Phase One of the JENDELA intitiative\u00a0has been allocated and (various projects) are\u00a0being implemented,\u201d\u00a0he said.<br \/>\nAnnuar said for the Hulu Rajang area, a total of 59 telecommunication towers were under construction, while 38\u00a0transmitter towers had been upgraded and\u00a012 more were being upgraded.<\/p>\n<p>He said\u00a0all the initiatives were still in the implementation stage and were expected to be completed in stages by the end of 2023.<br \/>\nMeanwhile, Annuar said the percentage of 4G network coverage\u00a0in\u00a0populated areas\u00a0in\u00a0Sarawak\u00a0increased to 84.24 per cent in the first quarter of 2022 compared with\u00a073.67 per cent before the implementation of the JENDELA\u00a0initiative.<br \/>\n&#8212; BERNAMA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA LUMPUR: \u00a0The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) is monitoring companies that have been awarded tenders to instal\u00a0fiber\u00a0optic Point of Presence\u00a0(PoP)\u00a0network hubs\u00a0in 700 rural schools in Sabah.
