TAMBUNAN: The work to upgrade the current gravel road leading to Malaysia\u2019s second highest peak, the Mount Trusmadi, is expected to complete in 24 months.<\/p>\n
During his visit to the construction site today, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said the upgrading of the 7.3 km road which begins at Km 3.9 of Jalan Mesej in Tambunan and ends at the Butterfly Gate of Mt Trusmadi, has been eagerly anticipated by the locals.<\/p>\n
\u201cWorks on the RM43 million project began on 23 May this year and is expected to be completed by 22 May 2024.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is great news because not only is this an important stretch for Tambunan\u2019s agricultural industry, but the completion of the road upgrade from gravel to paved roads will help catapult the district\u2019s ecotourism industry,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mount Trusmadi, at 2.642 metres, is the second highest mountain in Sabah and Malaysia, after Mount Kinabalu. The climb to the summit of Trusmadi, on the other hand, is said to be a little more difficult than Mount Kinabalu.<\/p>\n
Kitingan, who is also the Tambunan assemblyman, hoped that once the road to the mountain was finished, more people would be aware of the mountain and its location, and climbers would make it one of their top destinations in the country.<\/p>\n
