{"id":11640,"date":"2022-04-13T18:06:14","date_gmt":"2022-04-13T10:06:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/?p=11640"},"modified":"2022-04-13T18:11:59","modified_gmt":"2022-04-13T10:11:59","slug":"poic-now-on-business-rich-map-of-chinas-giant-port-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/2022\/04\/13\/poic-now-on-business-rich-map-of-chinas-giant-port-group\/","title":{"rendered":"POIC now on business-rich map of China\u2019s  giant port group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KOTA KINABALU: Sabah\u2019s ambition to becoming the region\u2019s logistics hub takes a huge step forward with a link- up with China\u2019s Shandong Port Overseas Development Group, the biggest port operator in the world.<br \/>\nWith the signing of a Strategic Collaboration Agreement today, Sabah\u2019s state-owed POIC Sabah Sdn Bhd and its industrial park and ports in Lahad Datu are now in the company of a global logistics player that marks a major step towards realizing its vision as the hub of logistics, resource amalgamation and manufacturing of the BIMP-EAGA region.<br \/>\nNotable in the context of POIC Lahad Datu&#8217;s vision for global logistics connectivity is the fact it is now linked to Shandong Port Group 313 shipping routes of which 173 are international, 113 RCEP national port routes and 84 Belt and Road member port routes.<br \/>\nThe signing was the second for POIC Sabah since last Friday when it signed a similar collaboration agreement in Kuala Lumpur with the China Construction Bank Corporation (Malaysia) Berhad.<br \/>\nShandong Port Group has under its wings four sizable port groups along China\u2019s eastern seaboard. They combine for an annual cargo throughput of 1.9 billion metric tons and 30 million TEUs. (Sabah\u2019s annual cargo throughout in 2021 was 31 million tons, and under 4 million TEUs).<br \/>\nPOIC Sabah Chairman, Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee, likened the company\u2019s strategic position as being \u2018on the shoulders of a giant\u2019 and expected the tie-up relationship to have a major contribution to Sabah\u2019s development and efforts to draw in foreign investments.<br \/>\nOn the latest signing, Yong said the business-to-business contact will help to enhance diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, as well as the established people-to-people connections.<br \/>\nYong, who witnessed the ceremony, added: \u201cThe sheer size and business reach of the Shandong Port Overseas Development Group are invaluable assets for us. What we believe we can offer is a good industrial park with a comprehensive port infrastructure, located in a region with extremely rich resources, promising markets and served by an increasingly important Lombok-Makassar shipping super highway.<br \/>\n\u201cWe are looking to develop our port as a network port of the Shandong Port Group. Our POIC Lahad Datu industrial park can grow to serve as a cargo consolidation and break-bulking hub, creating access to markets and territories in our region of about 78 million people.\u201d<br \/>\nPOIC Sabah\u2019s Chief Executive Officer Datuk Fredian Gan also spoke at the ceremony. He said the link up with a major China port operator augurs well for the company as it moves towards<br \/>\nopening up the port to serving customers other than investors at POIC Lahad Datu.<br \/>\nGan signed the collaboration agreement on behalf of POIC Sabah, while Shandong Port Overseas Development Group was represented by its Deputy General Manager, Mr Xu Wei.<br \/>\nMr Zhang Quan Cheng, Chairman of Shandong Port Overseas Development Group described the Collaboration Agreement as a \u2018win-win cooperation\u2019.<br \/>\nHe said the Shandong Port Group\u2019s combined throughput from its four ports \u2013 Qingdao Port, Rizhao Port, Yantai Port and Bohai Bay Port &#8211; is the world\u2019s highest, and is growing into a world class international port operator and integrated logistics supply chain service provider.<br \/>\nThe Group has sizable port and related logistics businesses in countries in, amongst others, Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, Europe and West Africa.<br \/>\nAcknowledging POIC Lahad Datu as a major project helping to accelerate growth in East Asean, he said: \u201c(We) will take this signing as an opportunity to work with POIC to optimize its advantages and promote business cooperation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KOTA KINABALU: Sabah\u2019s ambition to becoming the region\u2019s logistics hub takes a huge step forward with a link- up with China\u2019s Shandong Port Overseas Development Group, the biggest port operator in the world.
