{"id":11279,"date":"2022-03-30T20:37:22","date_gmt":"2022-03-30T12:37:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/?p=11279"},"modified":"2022-03-30T20:37:22","modified_gmt":"2022-03-30T12:37:22","slug":"unduk-ngadau-now-registered-as-a-brand-with-myipo-joanna","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/2022\/03\/30\/unduk-ngadau-now-registered-as-a-brand-with-myipo-joanna\/","title":{"rendered":"Unduk Ngadau now registered as a brand with MyIPO &#8211; Joanna"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KOTA KINABALU:  The term \u2018Unduk Ngadau\u2019 has been registered with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) to protect the cultural pageant from being misused, as it has in the past.<br \/>\nChairperson of the Unduk Ngadau pageant contest, Joanna Kitingan said that although they have already registered the term with MyIPO, they are still seeing it being misused by other private pageant organizers.<br \/>\n\u201cAs the chairperson of the Unduk Ngadau for many years and having researched the last 62 years of the Unduk Ngadau, I was shocked to see another beauty organization using the word \u201cReal Beauty Unduk Ngadau 2022\u201d, said Joanna in a statement.<br \/>\n\u201cAs someone who advocate the real beauty of the Unduk Ngadau as recited by the Bobohizan that the beauty of Huminodun who willingly sacrificed herself so that her people may live.<br \/>\n\u201cShe is an epitome of the empowered woman who willingly sacrificed herself,\u201d she said.<br \/>\nShe also explained that the Unduk Ngadau cultural pageant has been held for the last 62 years and that it has kept relevant till now.<br \/>\n\u201cA lot of other beauty pageants has emulated the Unduk Ngadau\u2019s way of organizing at district level. Even the male version of the Unduk Ngadau such as the Mr. Kaamatan has made their pageants more meaningful by making it compulsory for contestants to speak their mother tongue and wearing traditional costume from each district and describing what they are wearing,\u201d she said.<br \/>\nJoanna added that the reason they have registered the Unduk Ngadau with MyIPO was to protect the cultural pageant being misuse as in the past.<br \/>\n\u201cBut we still see it being misused by other private pageant organizers.<br \/>\n\u201cWe don\u2019t want the word Unduk Ngadau to project otherwise and spoil our culture and our women,\u201d said Joanna.<br \/>\n\u201cIn the past, the Unduk Ngadau pageant has simply been held in inappropriate place that\u2019s why we registered it.
