{"id":1108,"date":"2021-02-06T18:22:36","date_gmt":"2021-02-06T10:22:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/?p=1108"},"modified":"2021-02-08T17:50:17","modified_gmt":"2021-02-08T09:50:17","slug":"saip-to-come-under-the-state-agriculture-ministry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/2021\/02\/06\/saip-to-come-under-the-state-agriculture-ministry\/","title":{"rendered":"SAIP to come under the State agriculture ministry"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Agro-Industrial Precinct (SAIP) in Kimanis would soon be placed under the Agriculture and Fisheries Ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, its minister Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said the management would be handled together in a State Steering Committee with Sabah Economic Development Authority (SEDIA), the Ministry of Industrial Development and the Institute for Development Studies (IDS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe ministry is highly interested in this facility because of its potentials. But we must work together to ensure it would not turn into another white elephant,\u201d he said after a visit to SAIP today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" src=\"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/IMG-20210206-WA0021-1.jpg\" alt=\"SAIP to come under the State agriculture ministry\" class=\"wp-image-1109\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/IMG-20210206-WA0021-1.jpg 300w, https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/IMG-20210206-WA0021-1-150x84.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption>SAIP to come under the State agriculture ministry\n<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The Deputy Chief Minister said his ministry is the most suitable to handle the facility because it could control the whole supply and value chain of the food industry, from mainly agricultural raw materials up to the finished products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SAIP is a technology precinct that serves as an enabler or platform for the development of agro-based industry focusing on food and specialty crops up to high value pharmaceutical, health and wellness products, and driven by technological processing, bio-technology innovation and R&amp;D.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, since it was completed in 2018, it has not been able to fulfil its potential, and the problem was made worse due to the Movement Control Order (MCO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nevertheless, Kitingan said he is confident, with the right team and a combined effort from his ministry, SEDIA, MID and IDS, the facility will finally achieve its objectives of producing successful local entrepreneurs and producing Sabah home-grown brands for the international market.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy goal is to ensure this facility will contribute towards our goal of attaining self-sufficiency in food production. We have been importing food too much, why can\u2019t we produce enough food for our people with our resources?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNowadays, we have many modern and precision agriculture methods, yet we are still lagging behind.
