{"id":11056,"date":"2022-03-25T15:21:07","date_gmt":"2022-03-25T07:21:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/?p=11056"},"modified":"2022-03-25T15:21:07","modified_gmt":"2022-03-25T07:21:07","slug":"action-plan-being-drafted-for-transformation-of-forest-plantation-in-sabah-chief-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/2022\/03\/25\/action-plan-being-drafted-for-transformation-of-forest-plantation-in-sabah-chief-minister\/","title":{"rendered":"Action plan being drafted for transformation of forest plantation in Sabah &#8211; Chief Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TUARAN: The Action Plan On Forest Plantation Development 2022 &#8211; 2036 by the Sabah Forestry Department will be used as a guide in transforming forest plantations in the state, said Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor.<br \/>\nHe said the action plan would provide a strategic\u00a0action to towards achieving sustainable land use to strengthen timber crops in Sabah.<br \/>\n\u201cThis 15-year action plan provides guidance in forest plantation development according to sustainable forest management\u00a0as outlined in the Sabah Maju Jaya Development Plan (2021-2025) and Sabah Forest Policy 2018.<br \/>\n&#8220;It is hoped that by 2035, the target of having 400,000 hectares of forest plantations and production capacity of at least six million cubic metres per year can be\u00a0achieved,&#8221; he said when opening the state-level\u00a0International Forest Day celebration at the Sulaman Lake Forest Reserve here today.<br \/>\nAlso present were Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Dr. Jeffery Kitingan,\u00a0who is also the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries; Special Functions Minister Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif; Sabah Federal Secretary Datuk Sarul Bahiyah Abu and Sabah Forestry Department Chief Forest Conservator\u00a0\u00a0Datuk Frederick Kugan.<br \/>\nYesterday, Hajiji, when winding up the debate on the speech by Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin at the Sabah State Legislative Assembly,\u00a0 was reported to have said that 400,000 hectares of forest plantations would be developed in forest reserves in the state for forest timber production by 2036.<br \/>\nTo achieve the target, he said, a total of 23,850 hectares of forest plantation areas had been set aside for 18 Sustainable Forest Management License Agreements (SFMLA) this year.<br \/>\n&#8220;Achieving this target, however, requires a strong commitment from existing players, and new investments.
