KUALA LUMPUR: \u00a0Pakatan Harapan (PH) had\u00a0violated the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the government and the opposition after asking that a bloc vote be conducted on a motion to extend the enforcement of subsection\u00a04(5) of the\u00a0Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) for another five years at the Dewan Rakyat today.\u00a0
\nCommunications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said in his opinion, the opposition’s action\u00a0has essentially nullified\u00a0the MoU.\u00a0
\n\u201cIn my opinion, with their action, the MoU is cancelled. And this is a \u2018blessing in disguise\u2019 as the Prime Minister can now cancel or suspend the implementation of the MoU,\u201d he said in a Facebook post today.
\nHe said Article 3.3 (b) of the MoU stated that PH agreed to support or remain neutral in any motion submitted by the government.
\nAnnuar said PH’s action would make it easier for\u00a0Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob,\u00a0 with the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, to fulfill the mandate adopted at the recent UMNO General Assembly\u00a0regarding the dissolution of Parliament.

\nThe motion to extend the enforcement of subsection\u00a04(5) of the\u00a0Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) for another five years was not approved by the Dewan Rakyat today.
\nThe motion, tabled by Home Minister\u00a0Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, was not passed in a bloc vote which saw\u00a084 Members of Parliament (MPs) agreeing and 86 disagreeing.
\nWhen announcing the vote outcome, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun said 50 MPs were absent\u00a0during voting.
