\nKUALA LUMPUR: Mention the name\u00a0Michael Jackson and surely many will remember the King of Pop with his slick dance moves,\u00a0inimitable singing and offbeat fashion style.
\nHe’s been gone since 2009 but he is definitely not forgotten.
\nHis fans still remember his\u00a0dance moves.
\nMalaysia is no exception. The one,\u00a0nicknamed the \u2018Gloved One\u2019 definitely has a huge following here. His fans can sing the songs of the late entertainer extraordinaire while\u00a0some are also able to dance nimbly like Jackson, complete with almost identical costumes.
\nAhmad Ebadey Ahmad Salleh, 24, from Semporna, Sabah, appeared who have\u00a0a talent for dancing and singing like the legendary performer so much so that the video of his performance earlier this year\u00a0that went\u00a0viral on social media, garnered praise.
\nWearing a hat, black jacket\u00a0and gloves like those worn by Jackson, Ahmad Ebadey executed the backsliding ‘moonwalk’ dance during the performance, just like Jackson did.
\n\u00a0Ahmad Ebadey when met by Bernama recently said that he had studied Michael’s singing and dance\u00a0style since the age of nine.
\n\u201cIt started with my dad often playing Jackson\u2019s songs. Indirectly, that sparked an interest in me to learn how to dance like him\u00a0and I practised\u00a0on my own at home.
\n“Jackson\u2019s\u00a0dance video clips inspired me a lot. First, I learned\u00a0the movements and then the singing. It took me years\u00a0before I could master both the dancing and singing,\u201d he said.
\nThe former factory operator in Shah Alam, Selangor also said it never crossed his mind that a video of his performance at a restaurant in Bandar Sunway would go viral and get thousands of reaction.
\nHe said it was made just for fun and was meant only to entertain the public.
\nHe also said that he started performing live in public in November last year after receiving an offer from the busking band, \u2018Project-X Band\u2019\u00a0which performed regularly at the restaurant.
\n\u201cInitially, I was a regular customer at the restaurant where the Project-X Band normally performed. After work, I would go to\u00a0the restaurant to hang out with my friends there. I would also sing sometimes.
\n“So when the band (Project-X) realised that I had quit my job, they offered me to join them and busk full-time. This to me, was the opportunity that I was waiting for,\u201d he said and made Klang Valley his home since 2019.
\nAhmad Ebadey, who is still a bachelor, said he bought the clothes like Jackson\u2019s as he\u00a0wanted to be as authentic as possible when singing the pop icon\u2019s songs.
\nAmong Michael’s songs which Ahmad Ebadey would sing during performances are \u2018Billie\u00a0Jean\u2019, \u2018Beat It\u2019, \u2018Bad\u2019\u00a0and \u2018Smooth Criminal\u2019.
\nMeanwhile, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Faculty of Music senior lecturer, Rizal Ezuan Zulkifly Tony said\u00a0Ahmad Ebadey stood out as he managed to infuse excellent music and dance steps,\u00a0and he looked really comfortable\u00a0imitating Jackson\u2019s style, unlike some others who looked awkward.
\n\u201cPsychologically, Ahmad Ebadey appears to be comfortable singing and dancing like\u00a0Jackson as he had trained himself\u00a0since young to\u00a0focus on doing two things (singing and dancing)\u00a0simultaneously. This is coupled with his\u00a0interest, talent and hard work,” he said,\u00a0adding that Ahmad Ebadey’s talent could be developed further with formal training in music.
