{"id":10342,"date":"2022-02-23T17:14:00","date_gmt":"2022-02-23T09:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/?p=10342"},"modified":"2022-02-23T17:14:00","modified_gmt":"2022-02-23T09:14:00","slug":"johor-state-election-pejuang-to-announce-its-42-candidates-on-thursday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/2022\/02\/23\/johor-state-election-pejuang-to-announce-its-42-candidates-on-thursday\/","title":{"rendered":"Johor State Election: Pejuang to announce its 42 candidates on Thursday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PUTRAJAYA: Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) would\u00a0be contesting 42 out of the 56 seats in the upcoming Johor state election based on the people\u2019s wish and voter composition, said its chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.<br \/>\nHe said certain factors had to be considered as some constituencies were not suitable for Pejuang to contest, based on the racial factor as it is a Malay party, apart from age and voters\u2019 loyalty towards other political parties.<br \/>\n&#8220;We\u00a0are not greedy, so what for to contest all the 56 seats and lose all?\u00a0We will be contesting seats that we may possibly win,\u201d he said at a news conference here today in conjunction with the launching of \u2018Aspirasi Johor\u2019 (Johor Aspirations), which is Pejuang\u2019s offer to the people of Johor.<br \/>\nAsked on Pejuang\u2019s chances in this election, Dr\u00a0Mahathir said: &#8220;We think we have a good chance.\u201d<br \/>\nPolling in the Johor state election is on March 12 with early voting on March 8 following the nomination of candidates on Feb 26.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are alone (not joining any coalition) but we have good candidates. I think we can provide the kind of leadership that is needed at this moment in Johor and Malaysia,&#8221; said Dr Mahathir.<br \/>\nIn his first press conference after being discharged from the\u00a0National Heart Institute (IJN) on Jan\u00a013 following a successful elective medical procedure, Dr Mahathir said\u00a0he would love to go to Johor to campaign in the election but his recovery was not 100 per cent yet.<br \/>\nHe said the\u00a0doctors had\u00a0advised him to be careful as he is 97 years old and could not guarantee himself not\u00a0getting\u00a0COVID-19 infection.<br \/>\n&#8220;I\u2019ve just recovered from a serious attack but I&#8217;m quite able to function well and\u00a0I know what is happening in the country.\u00a0I won&#8217;t lead but I can contribute (in the Johor election),&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile,\u00a0Pejuang president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said the list of candidates and seats for Pejuang to contest in this state election would be announced in Muar tomorrow.<br \/>\nOn \u00a0\u2018Aspirasi Johor, Mukhriz said the three focus areas would be prioritising the local people&#8217;s economy, narrowing the economic gap among the districts and fighting corruption.<br \/>\n&#8220;These offers come from the feedback received from various quarters and discussions with the public, non-governmental organisations and academicians,\u201d he said after the launching of \u2018Aspirasi Johor\u2019.<br \/>\n\u00a0&#8212; BERNAMA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PUTRAJAYA: Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) would\u00a0be contesting 42 out of the 56 seats in the upcoming Johor state election based on the people\u2019s wish and voter composition, said its chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
