Maya is Sabah’s new State Unduk Ngadau Queen

PENAMPANG: Maya Hejnowska, 20, became the State level Unduk Ngadau champion today, and officially taking over the Unduk Ngadau duties from Francisca Ester Nain.
Maya, who is a student at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and majoring in music studies appeared shocked, when her name was announced as the winner at Hongkod Koisaan near here.
Standing next to her was Paginatan’s Dianarin Vahidin, who is an agriculture major and currently works for a road construction company.
Maya won a cash prize of RM10,000 as well as an additional RM5,000 (which will only be paid once she hands over a similar traditional attire or the same one, with the completed accessories to the Unduk Ngadau gallery).
At the same time, she was also appointed as the ambassadress for local products under the Industrial Development Minister for one year; attained an educational scholarship from the North Borneo University College worth RM35,000; and other products. Altogether, she brings home prizes worth RM66,830.
Dianarin, who is the first runner up in the contest won RM12,000 in cash,hampers, educational scholarship and other prizes which amounts to RM45,280.
The second runner-up, Kundasang’s Febby Angelica Richard won a total of RM32,980 worth in prizes, including RM10,000 cash.
