KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak has stressed that Sabah’s entitlement to 40 percent of revenue is enshrined in the Federal Constitution.
He highlighted the importance of upholding constitutional rights, stating that the specific percentage is not the primary concern.
Salleh, the Usukan assemblyman, pointed out that Sabahans are urging the federal government to honour these rights.
He said that Sabahans also seek to independently determine the exact figure if there is no mutual agreement, as it reflects the desires of the people.
Salleh was asked to comment on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s statements regarding Sabah’s claims to 40 percent of revenue during the National Level Kaamatan Celebration in Penampang on Friday.
Anwar stated that the RM16 billion federal allocation for Sabah this year exceeds the claimed 40 percent revenue share from Putrajaya.
He also highlighted his government’s efforts to address outstanding issues related to the Malaysian Agreement of 1963 (MA63) since assuming office.
Sabah has been pushing for the return of the 40 percent revenue share as outlined in Article 112C of the Federal Constitution, dating back to 1974, making it a significant issue within the MA63 framework.
