Sepilok Jazz Academy Cultivates Local Talent: Winners to Perform at the Sepilok Jazz Festival

Spearheaded by President Alexander Yee Kok Tsen and Cheong Kok Ann, the organiser and director of music for Sepilok Jazz, respectively, this groundbreaking programme is an integral part of the Sepilok Jazz Festival, with sectors in Kota Kinabalu (KK) and Sandakan (SDK) offering a platform for aspiring musicians to learn and practice.

With the KK sector recently concluded on the 3rd, the Sepilok Jazz Academy has already begun making waves by providing invaluable opportunities for local musicians to showcase their skills.

Over 50 entries from KK and Sandakan, ranging from primary students to university-level musicians and professionals, have participated, reflecting the diverse musical landscape of Sabah.

Winners of the Sepilok Jazz Academy will receive a coveted opportunity to perform at the prestigious Sepilok Jazz 3rd Edition on September 6 and 7, 2024, providing them with exposure and recognition on a regional stage. This unique platform not only celebrates their talent but also serves as a stepping stone towards furthering their musical careers.

The judging panel, comprised of esteemed figures in the industry, including Wilson Quah and Kok Ann, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the evaluation process. Wilson, renowned for his contributions to the music scene, brings a distinguished profile that enriches the adjudication process, ensuring that the most deserving talents are recognised and supported.

In collaboration with Trinity Arts and Music Academy, the Sepilok Jazz Academy aims to foster collaboration and learning opportunities within the local music community, nurturing a vibrant ecosystem of talent and creativity.
