Pulau Gaya to be transformed into a prominent tourist destination

KOTA KINABALU: The state government of Sabah is planning to develop Pulau Gaya into a prominent tourist destination.

As such, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor emphasized the need to reorganise the settlements on the island, particularly addressing the issue of squatter areas.

“To achieve this goal, the government is considering relocating squatters to new housing on the mainland.

“This initiative aims to enhance the appeal of Pulau Gaya as a tourist attraction and prevent unauthorized construction that could detract from its beauty,” he said.

During the Majlis Kembara Kasih Ramadan event on Pulau Gaya, Hajiji highlighted the island’s potential as a tourist hotspot and stressed the importance of maintaining unity, safety, and cleanliness among residents.

“Additionally, plans are underway to construct a Health Clinic on the island, further enhancing its infrastructure for visitors, ” he added.
