SANDAKAN: The government remains dedicated to ensuring the equitable distribution of aid to all citizens regardless of their race or religion within the state.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor emphasised the importance of collaboration between the Unit for Community Development Leaders (UPPM) and the corporate sector as a means to effectively assist those in need.
He said the efforts of UPPM should be commended as they play a crucial role in helping the government identify people in need of assistance regardless of race and religion.
“UPPM is the state government’s foundation for delivering policies and development implemented by the government to the people.
“Therefore, we suggest that all UPPM officers and staff should always be in their respective areas to facilitate the public’s meeting with them,” he said at an iftar event in Sandakan on Friday.
His speech was read by the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Isnin Aliasnih.
Hajiji said this position needs to be taken seriously as a great responsibility as a liaison to the people to convey issues and shortcomings in their areas to the government.
“I am also proud of UPPM’s sincere efforts in enhancing the spirit of Ramadan, with commitment and dedication in organising iftar events throughout the state,” Hajiji explained.
He added that cooperation with several corporate companies, including Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad, should be set as an example to others as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR).
“Hopefully, next year, more private companies and corporate sectors will participate in programmes like this,” Hajiji added.
