Flight ticket subsidies benefit 18,000 Sabah students, Nizam

KOTA KINABALU: Flight ticket subsidies will benefit approximately 18,000 Sabah students studying at public higher education institutions (IPTA) in Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak, and Labuan.

Gagasan Rakyat information chief Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan said that the RM600 subsidy will assist students in returning to their hometowns to meet their beloved families before Aidilfitri.

“I welcome the announcement by the Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, regarding the flight ticket subsidies amounting to RM10 million for all Sabah students involved,” he said in a statement today.

Nizam, who is also the Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, said that the State Government has allocated RM67.4 million to the Sabah Foundation Group this year to assist Sabah children in pursuing education within or outside the country.

He said that this allocation has increased by RM13.6 compared to the previous year.

“This important announcement proves that the GRS PH Plus government, under the leadership of Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, is serious about assisting and improving the education of Sabah’s children.

“The intention of the Sabah Government aligns with the Sabah Maju Jaya Direction Plan, which is to strengthen human capital development and enhance the level of education in Sabah,” he said.

He added that hopefully, with the efforts taken by the state government, it will enhance the spirit of Sabah’s children to continue pursuing and achieving their dreams.
