In disclosing this, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said the celebration was expected to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Ewon said holding a large-scale event in Sabah, especially in Kota Kinabalu with the participation of many foreigners, would help boost the state’s economic growth.

“The entrepreneurs and traders in this state will indirectly benefit from the government activities that we bring to Kota Kinabalu.

“That is one of the efforts I have made after being given the responsibility of leading this ministry,” he said.

Ewon said this in his speech at the Sabah Chinese Welfare Association Charity Dinner, at the Hakka Hall, here on Saturday night.

Also present were Kapayan State Assembly Member Jannie Lasimbang, Sabah Chinese Welfare Association President Henry Yap and Organising Chairman Richard Chong.

He said the government appreciates the contribution of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) of the Chinese community that are active in carrying out charity and welfare activities.

Ewon, who is also Penampang MP, said that the contributions and support of various parties including the Sabah Chinese Welfare Association organizing charity activities are greatly appreciated and welcomed.

“I really appreciate the efforts and interest of the Sabah Chinese Welfare Association in helping our community in need, whether it is people with disabilities (OKU), students with difficult circumstances or people in need.

“On behalf of the government, I would like to express my gratitude to the Sabah Chinese Welfare Association for all their contributions and efforts to help the community in need through this charity event,” he said.

At the event, Ewon presented a donation of RM30,000 to the Sabah Chinese Welfare Association as support for the welfare programs implemented by the association.
