Former Political Secretary, Ex Journalist Dies

KOTA KINABALU: Albert Bingkasan –
a former political secretary to the then former Sabah deputy chief minister Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau — passed away at 5.20 today.

He was 58 years old.

The former journalist turned politician passed away at Taman Sierra, Menggatal.

His brother Joseph Bingkasan, a former journalist, said Albert was discharged from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Jan 26 after being admitted for multiple illnesses.

“He was ok yesterday. This morning fainted while at the toilet. Wife called ambulance and put him on life support but no more responding.

“He breathed his last surrounded by his wife, three daughters and a son,” he said when contacted today.

Joseph said funeral is being arranged at Bingkasan Family cemetery Kg Talimakas Kionsom, Inanam.

Albert was a journalist with a Sabah-based newspaper – Borneo Mail in the late 80s before becoming a full time politician. He was Upko Information Chief before relinquishing the post soon after the state general election in 2020.
