KOTA KINABALU: Every major town has its own tourist attraction. Kota Belud is no different.
Kota Belud, which is located roughly at the midpoint of the federal highway connecting the state capital, Kota Kinabalu, and Kudat, near the northern tip of Sabah, is famous for its grand Tamu Besar.
After being quiet for almost two years following the COVID -19 outbreak, the event of Tamu Besar Kota Belud is back.
According to Kota Belud District Officer Diyana Abdullah, this year’s events of the Tamu Besar Kota Belud kicked off early this month, and the grand finale is slated for November 27.
For this year, she said Tamu Besar Kota Belud will be held under the new normal, with limited number of visitors or audience, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Diyana said for those who are interested in following the events on Nov 25,26 and grand finale on Nov 27, they can do so virtually through Facebook live streaming.
Tamu Besar Kota Belud is one of the biggest events on Sabah calendar.Tamu Besar Kota Belud is the biggest, traditional, open-air market in Sabah.
Diyana said among the highlights of the event are horse racing, buffalo racing
and poetry speech.
“It is a unique event that attracts both locals and internationals,” said Diyana of the upcoming Tamu Besar Kota Belud.
