KOTA KINABALU: Former Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said that the issue of disease prevention falls under the shared or joint list between the Federal government and Sabah government.
He stated that this matter has been clearly spelt out in List III, Schedule 9 of the Malaysia Federal Constitution.
The shared lists between the Federal government and the Sabah government are matters concerning public health, public welfare, scholarships, wildlife protection, national parks, urban and rural planning, drainage and irrigation, culture and sports as well as housing and the provision of housing facilities.
“This is why Sabah has her own laws regarding disease prevention control under the Public Health Ordinance 1960,” he said in his latest facebook entry.
Salleh who is also the chairman of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) backbencher stressed that to be successful in overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic will depend on the good cooperation between the Federal government and Sabah government.
“The MCO (Movement Control Order) and the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) are Federal legislation, but it is a joint jurisdiction with the Sabah government,” he said.
He urged that the issue related to Sabah’s SOP be resolved soon and reminded that the objective is the same which is to sever the Covid-19 pandemic link.
